Fear Farm: 8.2 Stars out of 10 Stars

Location: 1475 N McClintock Dr. Tempe, AZ 85257

Summary: Fear Farm is exactly what you would expect, a huge dirt field full of horror! As we approached the gate, we were greeted with a towering skeleton and the screams of the victims from inside. What waited for us inside was four haunted houses, a corn maze, phobia (exactly what it sounds like), monsters everywhere, 3 amazing carnival rides (the Zipper, Zero Gravity, and Jokers Remix) and of course JASON!!! Not to Mention some other smaller events such as incredible photo ops, Deadshot Alley and two secret bars. We are familiar with 13th floor entertainment as we go to the Denver location every year, but this was totally different, which made it exciting and a one-of-a-kind experience for us… and hopefully you!

Actors: (7 out of 10) It is obvious their actors wanted to come out and play with our dead bodies and devoured them tonight. Monsters were out whispering in our ears when waiting in line and once in their homes and haunted grounds they were ready to tear us apart. Most of the actor’s had good placement which created effective jump scares and the makeup was incredible lifelike bring everything to life, or in this case to death. Jason stood out above the rest, with his eerie silence and way of showing up without making a sound making our stomachs drop to the ground. His victims created a motion picture perfect effect taking us directly into the movie making us feel like we were victims about to be killed. The fun house clowns also were some of the scariest clowns we have seen in our years of walking through fun houses, they were there to take heads and play with them, and we knew it! Though the other two haunted houses were not as scary, we still enjoyed walking through them and overall, the night was a creepy delight!

Immersion: (7.5 out of 10): They stuck 100% to the theme in Jason Universe Survive the Night, Mr. Tasty’s Fun House, and The Siren’s Wake. We were confused what the theme of Beyond the Veil was, could be some kind of creepy church theme with demons, but it was difficult to say we felt it was immersive in any theme as things did not flow entirely and we were not sure what was “Beyond the Veil”.

Props/Special Effects: (7.5 out of 10): There were plenty of great effects made with well-placed lighting, creative props and scary little tricks, but to name a few of our favorites…. The 3D painting in the Fun house was some of the best we have seen, created incredible fear and disorientation throughout all of the haunted house. The special effects in the extra event Phobia were CRAZY! It started with a dizzying tunnel that made us confused and overwhelmed followed by an entire room that is titled with a monster jumping around at us. It was bone chilling and simply terrifying as we tried to navigate our way out. Not to mention areas with tight fits, spiderwebs and complete darkness, holy shit… Make sure to go to Phobia! The Kraken with the foam machine was just cool and something we had never seen before, we could not help but look back as we walked away just to see it one more time!

Customer Service: (10 out of 10) This haunted house went over the top with customer service, being friendly and kind to us and others we saw them interact with. Management and staff truly understood their haunted houses and rules of their farm. The manager and staff were all incredibly welcoming and took time to talk to us even stayed late because they knew we came from out of state to see their haunted event and wanted to be sure we were able to experience everything fully.

Scare Factor: (7 out of 10): Some of the haunted houses stood out more than others when it came to scare factor. Though Beyond the Veil had creative props including a creepy church theme and some terrifying dolls, the actors were less engaging and created less jump scares throughout the haunted house. Mr. Tasty’s Fun House was creepy from start to finish, the clowns were interactive and the 3D effects were out of this world. Actors did a strong job being set up for jump scares making our skin crawl as we worked our way through this wacky disorienting house of terror. The Siren wake was more interesting and creative than scary but was extremely entertaining and we would enjoy going again! This was the first haunted house we seen with a kraken and a foam machine soaking us as we walked through on a hot and sticky night. Jason was FREAKEN TERRFYING! The way he popped up out of nowhere, how he had his body language down perfectly creating the perfect amount of suspense and terror. The way the actors interacted with Jason, complemented the haunted house creating one of the best experiences we have ever had, it truly felt like we walked into the movie.

Entertainment and Value (10 out of 10): When you buy your tickets online or at Costco you get entry to 4 haunted houses (Jason Universe Survive the Night, Beyond the Veil, Mr. Tasty’s Fun House, and The Siren’s Wake) along with a ton of photo opportunities around the farm. Costco tickets are two VIP for $60; this is an incredible price for skipping up to 1/3 the line. Also, each add-on, the corn maze, phobia, food and other activities around the farm are only a bit more making this is amazing night out. Normally, purchasing photos can be a bit pricing, but they give you so many photo opportunities that if you don’t want to purchase the package offered you can turn it away easily and take your own photos around the farm instead. This a lot of bang for your buck.
