The Funhouse: 7.4 Stars out of 10
Location: 3429 Dillon Drive, Pueblo, CO 81008
Summary: Small family owned creative and artistic haunted house. Jared has built a wonderful small, haunted house, that is about more than scaring the pants off the victims that dare come in. He has created a safe community for people who come together for the love horror and Halloween, he spreads Halloween joy through all his events including this Funhouse and Summerween. We want to make note, though the score is 7.4 it is due in part because of how we rate haunted house, based on fear factor. Jared made it clear when we arrived “not every room is meant to scare”.
Actors: (7.5 out of 10): It was obvious the actors were primed and ready to eat our brains, sacrifice us, and to follow us home in some demonic form. Though this haunted house is young and many monsters are still learning how best to scare, there were multiple leaders in the haunted house creating a fearful night. Some who even created enjoyment and laughter making this worthwhile in a different way than we expected! Some stars of the night, were the ballerina, starting with her head down and being turned on slowly turning round and round, just pretty as can be… the lights flash off and bam she is standing in front of us terror in her eyes. The two nuns played off each other creating an eerie and disheartening kind of fear that was overwhelming as you walked past their area and move through vails to get to the bitter end with the undead. The card room was creepy, the jester cards kept us distracted as the demon card got out to devour us. Overall, the actors and the rooms were creative and very interactive!
Immersion: (8 out of 10): Each room did a great job being immersive in its own theme, we really felt we were in a ballerina’s room, the jester’s card room, or the sacrifice room etc. The hallways did not have a theme and were often empty. Could maybe help to have the guide join sooner to keep us distracted while we walk through empty spaces or chose to block off and not use some of the space in the building to prevent so much empty space.
Props/Special Effects: (5 of 10): This was a challenging area to rate this haunted house on, to be honest most of the scares were made by incredible actors. One special effect that was highly impressive was using darkness with the ballerina, it was the scariest part of the entire haunted house, well done! There was an interesting use of pool noodles to create uneven stepping when leaving the haunted ground, and the actors used simple distraction to cause fear and jump scares.
Customer Service: (10 out of 10) This haunted house went over the top with customer service, being friendly, at all times. The owner and all staff/actors were incredibly welcoming and awesome at their jobs. They understood the rules of the haunted house and did a great job staying in character. They all seemed excited at the idea of having a picture together and even asked the owner to join in, this showed how much they all connect as a team. It was cool to be part of their opening weekend!
Scare Factor: (6 out of 10): This might not have been the scariest haunted house, but it was extremely creative and defiantly had scary parts weaved throughout. By far the scariest room in the haunted house was the ballerina room, followed up by the jester card room. The nuns were also quite creepy, and the scarifying room created significant discomfort and was bone chilling to consider.
Entertainment and Value (8 out of 10): We feel it is well worth the price we pay for admission, $15 to interact with these monsters, a fortune teller, pig demons, the creepiest ballerina we have ever seen, nuns from hell, and way too many zombies to count! The rooms were creative and the actors very engaging and interactive! We bet you will have a wonderfully haunted time!
Important note, we were not sure how to put this in the review… We really enjoyed poop guy. Their scene with the random poop stick along with inviting us to a double seated poop with them was epic, it will haunt our nightmares in a totally different way, thanks for that!
As Always, Come Haunt with us!
