Spooky’s Swirls

Location: 3029 N Alma School Rd #117, Chandler, AZ 85224

Sweet, Devilish and Devious! Gluten free, NO, you won’t believe it but yes, it is!! Chris Szydlowski, Pastry Chef and cake artist/decorator along with Lola Forbes Le Cordon Bleu- French classically trained pastry chef have created something out of this world for a community desperately in need of it! They took their love for food, community, and each other and created something, in our opinion, that just has not been tasted before! Using innovative science, they have created their own flour that is 100% gluten free that taste incredible “we did not create gluten free food that tastes good, we create food that tastes good”. As they are both people who do not have allergies to gluten “we know what food should taste like” and “I am a foodie” so they make sure what they serve is mouthwateringly good. They had a goal no person left behind, meaning they wanted to make sure every person and “child has a birth cake” and all people can enjoy yummy treats.

You might ask yourself, how did Spooky’s Swirls become what it is. It all started at Wholefoods in the bakery department, with Lola baking and Chris decorating. If you have ever met these two, you would know that would never be enough for them, we just met them and in the short time knowing them we found them to be driven, kind, focused on community, and super hard working. They had big things in their future and meeting each other was the start of it all. Chris explained to us, they wanted more and took a leap, starting with a food truck which was a challenge that brought them closer as a couple as it brought them “freedom” in their career and choices to be more creative with the food they made. As soon as finances were available, they secured a building, both Chris and Lola love horror and Chris spent decades building a huge collection of rear horror memorabilia, so they decided to launch the idea of a “spooky” bakery. Securing Pinhead to coming to opening day “we were a hit and we knew we had something here”.

Chris has collected some amazing pieces, as horror fans we were IMPRESSED!! They were incredible careful in how they preserve items, taking the time and expense to ensure items stay safe and can be seen by the public forever. Further, they change based on season or what is happening in the community, for example they recently changed out the museum not only for October but also to get ready for new Carrie TV show about to be released. We were most impressed with the range of pieces they had from unique and unheard of to one of a kind. They had the only Trick-or-Treat Burlap Bag head from the movie and a NOS4A2 Mask.

So, this explains the spooky aspect of the shop and how they built their business into what they are now today, but why go gluten free? When we asked them, they pretty much said why not? They explained the community needed it, when gluten free is done a lot of the time, it’s done not well, we all know that’s true as we have tasted it! So, they set their focus on creating something to die for, specifically for this community that everyone would enjoy!

Lola and Chris are incredible humans who are focused on equality, creating a safe place for everyone to come, and want to spread joy through horror. This is Haunt on Wheels kind of place!! They want everyone to have yummy food at an affordable cost and hope to have their flour sold available for shipping, so excited for those of us that don’t live in Arizona….

We plan to haunt them every time we are in Arizona…. No matter where we are, Come Haunt with us!
