The Ritual: 8.5 Stars out of 10

Summary: The Ritual is a family-run haunted house that created spectacular scares and had a welcoming feel. Though the haunted house is creepy, the staff is kind and it was obvious everyone who works here is passionate about what they do. Whether working in the ticket booth, queuing victims in both lines, or preparing us for our journey through the swamp, they were foaming at the mouth to take us to our final destination. This haunted house is so unique and special it caught the attention of an author who decided to write a book about the creative and terrifying swamp their monsters reside in. Now that is something Haunt on Wheels just must read, you can be sure a review of The Ritual by Charles Welch will be coming soon.
Actors: (7.5 out of 10): Overall the actors were terrifying and interactive from the start. As we walked towards the swamp tree of death we were greeted by the dark priest who warned us our souls were not safe. Then when it was time to make a sacrifice, the panic felt real as the crow became fearful about my choice of sacrifice pacing and crying as we scrambled quickly by. Hooded figures coming out of the darkness, seeming to spring to life multiple times whispering into the air all around us. Pig killers threatening to roast us alive alongside “Juice Juily”. Though there were places where there were no props or actors it was filled with eerie silence, vines and swampy darkness.
Immersion: (10 out of 10): We were in a haunted swamp from start to finish, the Ritual nailed immersion. We felt we never left the swamp and the scene with the true swamp was as amazing as ever!
Props/Special Effects: (8 out of 10): Incredible special effects along with well-placed lighting, creative props, and the best swamp we have ever seen made this haunted house stand out. Their secret about the swamp will die with Haunt on Wheels, but it must be said they do it better than any other haunted house. We couldn’t see our feet, the monsters or anything else when we were in the swamp. They also make the swamp tighter and taller this year creating a more fearful and unnerving experience. Also, the way the water looked was so realistic, with eerie ripples along the top as we sludge through the deep and dark depts of the terror. The strobe lighting in the hallways made it incredibly difficult to see demons and the hooded figures creating spine chilling jump scares and the sacrificed crow was perfectly hung with fantastic lighting making him look lifelike.
Customer Service: (10 out of 10) The customer service was incredible, everyone was so friendly, at all times. Britteny, Mercedes and all staff/actors were incredibly welcoming and awesome at their jobs. They understood the rules of the haunted house and did a great job staying in character. They appeared genuinely interested in our feedback about our experience and even invited us back for more haunted good times in the future.
Scare Factor: (7.5 out of 10): This haunted house had some really creepy parts, specifically when the hooded characters came out of nowhere to snatch our souls. The pig killers were frightening and the swamp was disgusting and overwhelming. We also heard victims scream for their lives through multiple sections in the haunted house, huge validation for any haunted attraction. The strobe lights made things extremely difficult to see, creating perfect jump scares.
Entertainment and Value (8 out of 10): This is a wonderful, haunted night of fun for a low cost of $30. We spent about 20 minutes in the haunted house and then were able to get a book signed by Charles Welch who wrote a book based on The Ritual. We can also have dinner out at a food truck. This is a really cool addition to a creepy night. Overall, what a wonderful way to end a scary night out!
As Always, Come Haunt with us!
