Hearscon 2026
Burning of the Corpse
Burning Of the Course
4.70 OUT OF 5 Stars
Themed Activities (do the activities meet the theme of event and are the activities interactive and creative): 5 stars, This will be discussed more in the overall experience, in short this event was packed full of incredibly fun things to do, a coffin burning, hearse cruise, live music, interactive vendors, tons of creepy art vendors, and a hearse obstacle race, to name a few. If you have never attended Hearsecon, you need to!
Friendly and inviting staff/volunteers: 4.25 stars, most of the hearse owners were extremely engaging and wanted to talk to us about their passion, excited to teach us everything we needed to know about hearses and discuss the club in general. Some appeared distant/did not engage openly could be due to how much was going on or the enormity of the event. Many of the vendors were awesome, engaging and wonderfully creative, though some had a negative attitude and presented angry about their surroundings, this took away from the experience and the overall environment.
Organization and Flow of the event (does the event feel well planned and set up well): 4.5 stars, most of the event was very organized and all of the event was so much fun. Thursday everything started off well, Hearses were already lined up in all their glory on full display when we arrived. Zach and his team did a fantastic job creating an interactive experience, where everyone gathered to burn the coffin before heading over to enjoy dinner together. On Friday however, during the Funeral procession/hearse cruise at times things felt disorganized. Though everyone was able to follow each other and successfully get to where they needed to, at times parking was confusing and it appeared drivers were a bit anxious. Also, at one stop, the location was not open, creating a delay in the cruise, though this was used as an opportunity to spend quality time together, it was obvious this was not planned. The rest of event went seamlessly, which is so impressive as this event was so large/multi-day and run by so few people.
Spooky overall experience: 5 stars, I mean we are talking about retired vehicles that carried the dead to their final resting place people! Some of the stories of how these hearses found their current owners are scarier than others… We won’t tell you those stories here, instead you have to hear about them when you attend the next Hearscon!!!
Summary of Overall Experience
To the untrained eye Hearsecon might just look like a creepy car show but it is so much more. It is a club founded in 1996, rooted in unique traditions, and made up of people from all paths of life coming together due to their love for hearses. There are so many organizations that encourage acceptance and inclusivity of all types of people, but seeing the friendship and bonds formed between so many people with different beliefs was a powerful thing to witness firsthand. This club has created something special.
Hearsecon is a four-day event that was partially closed catering directly to its club members on some days and open to the public on other days. The event began on a Thursday night at the end of May with the ritual, “Burning of the Corpse”. Let’s be for real, seeing a huge coffin a blaze with fireworks exploding from the base was out of this world, but there is so much meaning within the flame! The night started off with the club members driving their magnificent hearses in the famous loop for their yearly debut, while hobbyists and hearse lovers gathered around in aww. Once everyone was settled in and gathered, Zach told the history of the burning of the “corpse” and encouraged everyone to prepare a “sacrifice”. Group members could write three negative things they wanted to burn away, three positive things they wanted to burn bright in their lives, or a mixture of the two to be given as a sacrifice. Then the fun really BEGAN, as we watched the founder light the massive coffin ablaze! As the coffin burned bright all participants gathered to make their sacrifice creating an even larger flame, this symbolized unity and a genuine connection in the community who gathered. Jared and l left feeling excited, empowered and calm due to the spirit and authenticity of this evening! If you have a passion for Hearses and are looking for true connection to a group of people who are accepting, this is the club for you!
Day two is a Funeral Procession/Night Cruse, Hearsecon is one of only two hearse shows in the United States, it is the only interactive event that has multiple days with different activities! Being in a hearse for a Funeral Procession was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, Jared and I will never forget. To be in a hearse traveling down the road next to decommission police cars surrounded by other hearses was like nothing we can explain, it was exciting and heart pumping… I hope everyone has the opportunity to ride in a hearse… before it is your last ride to your final destination.
Day three, the big public event! This event is held at the Stampede. This year there were so many HEARSES!!! The creativity shown by these vehicle owners was out of this world and though no photograph could ever capture their immense talent we have multiple with our review to give you an idea of what you can see next year when you attend. In addition to having such an unbelievable car show there were two live band who performed outside throughout the day, an incredible live band and Robot who performed inside at 3pm – the special effects were impressive, and ended with a really fun hearse obstacle race, that we personally enjoyed most of all.
Day four, a potluck in the graveyard. This was such a fun and relaxed way to end the four-day event. We have never done this before, but we would join this group of people in a graveyard anytime they extended an invitation. This was such a fun way to end a really packed few days! We decided not to take photographs of this event to let everyone in the club just enjoy their time together.
Denver Hearse Association made us feel like part of their club in so many ways from start to finish, and they did not have to. They engaged with us like we were friends, taught us so much about hearses, listened to us when we told them about our personal love of horror and interests. We learned so much about hearses, the history behind the vehicle and how reliable they are as cars in general. We now are interested in finding the perfect Hearse for our haunted family. Though it might be a couple years before we make our move, we love the Cadillac DTS Hearse with Oval Viewing Windows. So, whether you are interested in Hearses, love horror, or just want to have a good time get out of your coffin and check out Hearscon! Most importantly, never forget to COME HAUNT WITH US….
